Robert Kovacs
Robert Kovacs

Wo hast Du Mr. Kovacs entdeckt?

RP: In Almeria Spanien.

Was kannst Du uns über ihn erzählen?

Richard Tyson
Richard Tyson

Daniel Baldwin
Daniel Baldwin

Was ziemlich Anti-Hollywood ist.

Was sind deine nächsten Projekte?

Englische Version

Hello Rene thank you for your time!

How you came to the movie Business?

RP: I made started making commercial grade B movies at the lowest possible budgets. Far lower than anyone else. I still do that to this day. By making B movies that are suitable for commercial release at a fraction of the cost, the doors to the business were opened to me.

You are writing, Shooting and directing your movies, what is for you the hardest part?

RP: The writing, Directing and cinematography are the fun parts of the job for me. I do those with ease and joy. Dealing with production work is the hard part. The scheduling, the negotiating, and the million other details that a producer has to deal with are the hard part for me.

How would you describe your directing style?

RP: I don’t know if I have a specific style. I haven’t thought about it. You’d have to ask the critics or my actors. I usually just feel my way through everything. The only intentional styling on my part is to make movies that feel like they were made in the 80’s. I’m like a retro movie director. I love 80’s movies and I went completely 80’s canon film style on Death Kiss.

Which are your favorite cannon movies?

RP: When I was a little boy I loved the Canon Ninja movies. The Dragon Unleashed is also a Canon style ninja movie. So I liked the Canon Ninja movies, most of their Bronson movies and a few strays weird ones like Life Force. lol.

From all the movies you made until now what is your favorite?

RP: There are a couple I really like. But because of my extreme low budgets, I haven’t been able to make any specific movies that define me. So my favorite film is certainly yet to come. But I do love Death Kiss and a movie I recently completed called The Dragon Unleashed.

To be totally honest i expecting not much from Death Kiss, i thought it would be a very cheap rip-off. But Hands down, i was totall surprised. Visually it is great even with the low Budget you had at Hands. So how you got the idea to Death Kiss? You directed Robert Kovacs in a previous movie was it then that you got the idea?

RP: The producer Jeff Miller asked me if I wanted to make a revenge type vigilante movie with Bronzi and I was so happy. I don’t usually get to choose the movies I make. I am given assignments from the producers and distributors I work for. I’m a writer and director for hire. I’m told to make certain genre’s like Western, or Zombie or Slasher and then I go off and write a story that fits what my employer wants. Some times I’m given assignments that are not very interesting to me personally like some of the fantasy movie I’ve made but in the case of Death Kiss, it was a dream come true. After meeting Bronzi, the first thing on my mind was to make a gritty film like Death Kiss.

Have you been a fan of Charles Bronson and the Death Wish movies?

RP: Yes. I love the first one and Death Wish 2 is a guilty pleasure also. Part 3 is a little too wild for me. Part 4 is okay and I skip part 5. But Death Wish 1 was one of the great movies of the 70’s and that is high praise as the 70’s had some of the greatest movies of all time.

Where do you have discovered Mr. Kovacs?

RP: In Almeria Spain. I was filming a western TV show episode and I found out that he worked there as an actor for their live stunt shows. I was of course blown away by his resemblance to Bronson.

Not only that he looks very much like Charles Bronson i was really surprised that he is also a capable actor, what can you tell us About him?

RP: He is Bronson re-born. The way he acts and moves and even his tone of voice. He’s also a very dedicated and professional actor. I’ve made 3 movies with him so far and I hope to make countless more.

Do you have a favorite Scene from Death Kiss?

RP: I think I like the scene with the two muggers in the alley way. It totally encapsulates the entire feel I was going for.

Richard Tyson for me is stealing the movie in his role as bad guy, from the Moment he is on screen you don't like him hahaha You have worked with him before?

RP: Yes, I’ve worked with Tyson several times now. He is an incredible actor. Artistically talented and well practiced. He allows meet write incredibly horrific scene’s for him. Scene’s that other actors might be too afraid to be a part of. He’s also featured in the horror movies I make. I just filmed with him recently on the movie I’m filming now called “Cry Havoc”.

Eva Hamilton is the emotional Backbone of the movie, i think she is very talented, what do you think of her performance?

RP: I was very happy with her. So happy that I recently hired her again for a new movie. She took my dialog and made sure not to go over board with it. She kept it all in check with a her own careful style. That makes her a great collaborator. Which is a nice extra for any director to get from an actor.

With Daniel Baldwin you have also a famous Actor in your cast, i think he has a great voice so perfect casting, how he got attached to the movie?

RP: The producer of this film, Jeff Miller was able to get Daniel. I’m not sure how he did it but I’m glad he did. I was amazed by the high-level of Daniels acting ability. He was also very kind and took the work seriously.

He had some of the best lines of the movie, you wrote that stuff, are these your personal beliefs and opinions?

RP: Well I wrote the movie so yes. This was my first propaganda type movie and because of the subject matter, I thought I would let all of my weird thoughts spew out. Other than my dislike for the police, my views re mostly on the conservative side. Which is the anti-hollywood side. I’m surprised the movie was not censored.

So, Overall are you satisfied with the movie? Do you believe in a Sequel?

RP: I’m happy over all. Now that I know how to make an exact Canon films type movie, I would love to make a sequel and perfect it.

What are your next Projects?

RP: I have a Ninja movie called The Dragon Unleashed which I think came out today in Germany. And will be released in May in the USA. I am also filming a horror movie called CRY HAVOC. Which is a sequel to my recent movie Playing with Dolls: Havoc. Cry Havoc also Stars Bronzi.

Thank You Rene!
